Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials (Saturday, October 4, 9:00 PM, $5 cover). Nobody throws a party quite like Lil' Ed & the Blues Imperials. “Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials are genuine house-rocking masters . . . some of the hottest electric blues around. Duck-walking, back-bending, mind-blowing.” Blues Revue. From smokin' slide guitar boogies to raw-boned Chicago shuffles to the deepest slow blues, Lil' Ed is a masterful bluesman. Not only is the little man a giant talent, he is one of the most entertaining stage veterans on the road today. The Nashville City Paper’s Ron Wynn says the new “Full Tilt may be the best CD Lil’ Ed And The Blues Imperials have ever done.”

The Fabulous Minnesota Barking Ducks – 35th Anniversary Party (Saturday, October 11, 9:00 PM, $5 cover). How long can ducks survive? If they’re the barking kind, we know it’s at least 35 years. This venerable blues institution, headed up by guitarist Mic McCormick, has lived up to their motto for the entire journey: “Nothin’ beats fun for havin’ a good time.”

Joe Moss (Friday, October 17, 9:00 PM, $5 cover). In a field of blues guitar monsters, Joe Moss quickly earned a reputation in Chicago that landed him employers such as Syl Johnson, Magic Slim, Billy Branch and other top names. Being a sideman doesn’t cut it forever when you’re a great singer / songwriter. Joe formed his own band and has been a hotshot purveyor of blues and R&B ever since. His recent 212 Records release, Maricela’s Smile, spices Joe’s blues with jazz, funk and soul.

Bruce Katz (Saturday, October 18, 9:00 PM, $5 cover). Bruce Katz, a 2008 Blues Music Award Nominee for Best Keyboardist, brings his fiery, passionate and very original take on American Blues, Roots and Soul music as part of his CD Release Tour for his new CD, Live! At the Firefly.  Bruce is an acknowledged Hammond B-3 master and acclaimed pianist and brings his top flight band with him.  Besides touring with his own band, Bruce actively tours with Gregg Allman and Friends and John Hammond. He has recorded over 60 CDs in his celebrated career. While his music draws from many flavors of American music, the Blues is always in the house. Bruce has also recorded or performed with Duke Robillard, Jerry Portnoy, Little Milton, Jimmy Witherspoon, Eric Mingus, Big Mama Thornton, Mighty Sam McClain, Debbie Davies, David “Fathead” Newman and many others.  “He can play jazz, blues, Bach, anything.  Man, he’s a heavy!” – Gregg Allman. “This man is as good as it gets.  One of the greatest keyboard artists I’ve ever heard.” – John Hammond. His band includes Ralph Rosen (drums), Rod Carey (bass) and Chris Vitarello (smokin’-hot guitar).

Careless Loves (Monday, October 20, 8:00 PM, no cover). A Twin Cities Americana-all-star affair featuring Dan Newton (accordion / Café Accordion Orchestra), Dave Babb (guitar / Liquor Pigs), Steve Kaul (guitar / The Brass Kings), Rusty Jones (bass / Liquor Pigs, Safety Last) and Jon Rodine (vocals). Foot stomping folk, blues and country.

Chubby Carrier & The Bayou Swamp Band (Friday & Saturday, October 24 & 25, 9:00 PM, $5 cover). The World’s Premier Zydeco Showman. The Chicago Tribune called Chubby Carrier & the Bayou Swamp Band “one of the finer standard bearers of the classic, blues based zydeco sound among the new generation of Louisiana bands.” Born in 1967 in Church Point, Louisiana, Chubby Carrier sings, plays the accordion and literally plays the crowd with his dance-frenzy performances. The swampy, bayou-inspired two-step rhythms come straight from Cajun country and provide the perfect music for a party. Carrier comes from a family steeped in Zydeco, and is the third generation to ply the trade.

Halloween with Reverend Raven (Friday, October 31, 9:00 PM, $5 cover). Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, the Reverend has been playing the blues since 1971 when he first saw Freddy King play at the Kinetic Theater in The Windy City. After a 15-year hitch in the Navy, this talented vocalist/guitarist moved to Milwaukee where he began a long friendship and collaboration with Madison Slim. Since 1990, Rev. Raven has opened for Gatemouth Brown, Pinetop Perkins, Koko Taylor, Junior Wells, Elvin Bishop, Lonnie Brooks and many others. The Rev. is famous for his tight grooves and clear, muscular, tone. Boo.
